Installing the Cisco UCS Manager Simulator

1. There are 2 options when you download the Cisco UCS Manager Simulator, downloading the package as an OVF/OVA or as VMDK files. I opted for the VMDK option. I uploaded the folder to my VMware ESXi datastore and then registered the VMX file with my vCenter server which created the Virtual Machine for me. After registering the Virtual Machine I powered it on.

2. Once the command prompt appears asking you to login enter the default username and password of, User: config and Pass: config. You will then be presented with the following menu.

3. Press (a) to configure the Network settings. You will require 3 IP addresses for eth0, eth1 and eth2. Enter in the subnet mask and lastly the IP addresses for the default gateway. The wizard will configure the simulator with the IP addresses and you will then be ready to login.Free

4. Use Chrome or Firefox and enter in the address of the IP you set for eth0. In my example I used 192.168.1.92, so I will browse to https://192.168.1.92

5. Clicking on Start-up Inventory on the left hand side will give you the option to add extra UCS hardware to the Simulator. Out of the box you will get 1 chassis configured for you which includes 6 blade servers along with 2 x Interconnect switches

6. Clicking on UCS Manager on the right hand side and selecting UCS Manager Home, you can click on the Launch UCS Manager button. This will ask you to authenticate. Use the default username and password of User: config and Pass: config. Click Login.
